Tree Care and Shrub Care

Town & Country's professional staff has made sure that your trees and shrubs have been properly planted. It is now essential that the new plants receive the proper care and maintenance ensuring their survival and development. We recommend the following sound horticultural practices.

WATERING

To achieve deep watering providing moisture to the entire root system, we have built soil wells around each tree and shrub. Generally these wells should be filled 1 (one) time per week allowing the water to soak in.

WATERING GUIDELINES

Shrubs - 3 to 4 gallons per week (30 to 60 seconds) from a hose.
2" - 3" caliper & 5' to 7' Evergreens - 5 to 7 gallons per week (60 to 90 seconds from a hose. Larger Evergreens & trees - 10 gallons per week (1 to 2 minutes from a hose. Certain soil conditions may affect the watering frequency. That frequency will depend upon : 1. Soil type - sand require more frequent applications than clay soils. 2. Temperature - higher temperatures will require more frequent watering. 3. Rainfall or drought - watering must be decreased during wet periods or increased during dry periods. 4. Plant size - smaller plants will need more frequent watering than larger ones. Smaller plants may be watered 1 or 2 times per week. OVER WATERING MUST BE AVOIDED.

FERTILIZATION

After the first year, fertilize your trees and shrubs yearly. Commercial fertilizers are readily available, and can be used under most conditions. Many accepted methods and materials are used in tree and shrub fertilization. If you are not familiar with these, consult an arborist or Professional landscaper. We offer fertilization services for your convenience.

PRUNING

Arborists and landscapers recommend that trees and shrubs be pruned to enhance their health and appearance. Diseased and undesirable branches should be cut flush to the remaining branch. The correct time to prune depends greatly on the plant. Before undertaking a pruning job, research the correct procedures and practice them until you are comfortable doing them. Or consult an Arborist or professional landscaper. Call us if you would like a quote on our pruning services.

TREE STAKES AND GUIDE WIRES

Stakes and wires must be removed by the end of the second growing season.
